浮上油，油滴粒径大于100μm，易于从废水中分离出来。

分散油．油滴粒径介于10一100μm之间，恳浮于水中。

乳化油，油滴粒径小于10μm，不易从废水中分离出来。
因此，含油废水的治理应首先利用隔油池，回收浮油或重油，处理效率为60％一80％，出水中含油量约为100一200mg/L；废水中的乳化油和分散油较难处理，故应防止或减轻乳化现象。
